Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is similar to another condition – GERD – that results from the contents of the stomach backing up (reflux). An antacid is nothing but the one that immediately neutralizes the acids present in your stomach. Thus neutralizing the acids in the stomach can reduce acid reflux and thus can help reduce the lump like feeling caused by your acid reflux. But did you know that aloe can also be effective for treating the heartburn caused by acid reflux? Because it’s a natural anti-inflammatory, it can help reduce inflammation in the esophagus, providing some much-needed pain relief. Yes, If you are having a lump like feeling at the back of the throat (especially whenever you are having acid reflux) it is a clear sign of inflammation and irritation in the esophagus of your throat.

It’s best to take these with food or soon after eating, as this is when you’re most likely to get heartburn. They may also work for longer if taken with food. Exposure to certain substances can cause the direct inflammation of the pharynx and associated organs. Some are inhaled irritants like air pollution, cigarette smoke, and industrial fumes. Others are related to foods and other substances you ingest, such as alcohol, spicy foods, or chewing tobacco. This irritation can lead to a sore throat , a dry cough, and wheezing.

At either end of your esophagus is a ring of muscle (sphincter). Normally, these sphincters keep the contents of your stomach where they belong – in your stomach. But with LPR, the sphincters don’t work right. Stomach acid backs up into the back of your throat (pharynx) or voice box (larynx), visit these guys or even into the back of your nasal airway. It can cause inflammation in areas that are not protected against gastric acid exposure. By now it should be clear that acid reflux isn’t a problem limited to just the stomach or the throat, and it can’t be cured by just popping pills.

It’s also important to note that dietary changes don’t merely include what you eat, but how you eat. You can help to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux further by taking your time when you eat a meal, taking smaller bites, chewing slowly and thoroughly, and consuming smaller portions in each sitting. While acid reflux may be the direct result of something you’ve had to eat or drink, it may also be a persistent condition referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease ( GERD ). When stomach acid often gets up to the throat, this is called laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Singers, teachers, and people who have to use their voice extensively on a daily basis may experience more severe symptoms of sore throat caused by acid reflux. Narrowing of esophagus: Acid can damage the cells in the lower food pipe, resulting in scar tissue that narrows the food pipe, making it difficult to swallow. Personally, I prefer Manuka honey because it’s more potent than regular honey. Studies on Manuka honey have shown that it can accelerate the healing of wounds. ( 3 ) I used to take about a tablespoon of Manuka honey right after dinner and found it quite helpful for a sore throat.
